Hi. It’s not Brady. Again. I know, stay with me, the whiplash will end soon. It’s Kelly (from San Diego… I come in peace, Padres hat left at home).
With Brady back tomorrow, I’ll leave you with one of my favorite Brady-adjacent memories from the first Coachella we met. About 10 minutes in, he looked down and went, “…are you barefoot?” Reader, I was.
Fully committed to the desert experience (don’t knock it). His face landed somewhere between concern and “this explains a lot.” Fair!
So yes, that probably tells you more about me than Brady, but I do have the keyboard today, which means I also get to point you toward something slightly more polished than my festival choices…
…like October London, Eric Benét, and Leela James, basically a masterclass in smooth R&B and a very good reason to romanticize your entire week. Win your way into Peacock Theater on 5/15.*
JUST ANNOUNCED
If you’ve ever thought “Halloween should be twice a year,” you’re in luck, you little freak. Sinners hits Heritage Square Museum on 5/1 with a Half-O-Ween screening, plus cocktails, oddities, and food trucks. Enter to win a pair of tickets.*
Speaking of Coachella… two iconic headliner performances call for two SoFi shows. Karol G added a second date on 8/15. Artist presale is already live.
Logic and G-Eazy are hitting YouTube Theatre on 10/21. If you were outside in 2016, you already know the vibe. On sale Friday.
No such thing as too much tech house. Max Styler is going open to close at Shrine Expo Hall on 10/3. Sign up for presale and plan accordingly.
Wow, LA really does have a sh*t ton of things happening. Find more fresh announcements from Fred Armisen, Starcrawler, Faouzia, and way too many others to list.
LA’S BEST BIKE TRAILS
Okay, I’m making this about me again, but I just got an e-bike, which somehow now means I need a bigger car to haul it to LA. Give a mouse a cookie, you know?
Anyway, consider this your sign to go touch some grass, get a bug in your eye, and remind your out-of-town family that LA isn’t just parties, A-listers, and overpriced martinis. It’s also kind of elite for biking. The DoLA team (not me, I promise, this is locally sourced intel) rounded up the best trails across the city, from easy beach cruises to climbs that will humble you real quick.

THIS WEEK
🚨 MON 4/27, TUE 4/28 - INFINITY SONG at Blue Note LA (WIN)* ⚾ MON 4/27 - WED 4/29 - DODGERS VS. MIAMI MARLINS at Dodger Stadium 🔥 TUE 4/28, WED 4/29 - CHARLIE PUTH at Honda Center and The Kia Forum 👀 WED 4/29 - SHABAZZ PALACES at the Lodge Room 🙌 THU 4/30 - THE CRANE WIVES at The Bellwether (WIN) |
HASAN HATES RONNY | RONNY HATES HASAN
There’s something very LA about turning mutual hatred into a full show, and somehow making it a must-see. Hasan Hates Ronny | Ronny Hates Hasan lands at The Dolby Theatre 5/8–5/9, and it’s already moving.
5/9 at 7 pm is sold out, and 5/8 at 7 pm is close behind. If you’re trying to get in, your best bet is 5/9 at 10 pm… for now.*
LOCALS ONLY
Frogtown stays doing its own thing, and this is why we love it. First Fridays is back on 5/1 with an “All About the Animals” theme, so expect local art, workshops, and adoptable kittens and puppies scattered along the river path.
Not to be dramatic, but a free boat ride in LA? Rare. The Port of LA is running Harbor Tours on 5/9. First-come, first-served!
FEATURED
Alright, that’s enough from your temporarily barefoot correspondent. Brady will be back tomorrow to restore order.
Until then, enjoy one of my favorite Bieber throwbacks. I’ll also be taking a short break from saying the word Coachella.
– Kelly
